I use IMAP. My mail server does not have a sent folder. It has a SentMail folder. I have synced that folder up to the Thunderbird sent folder, yet Thunderbird keeps creating a Sent folder on my mail server. Every time I use thunderbird to send an email, a sent folder is created on my mail server with that email in it, instead of using the sentMail folder like I told it to. How do I make Thunderbird stop creating folders on my mail server altogether. I never gave you permission to create folders on my server so you should not be doing it. That is the behavior of malware.

Actually I said that a little wrong. Thunderbird sees the SentMail folder and syncs with it and it puts mail I send in that folder on my mail server. It just also creates another folder on my mail server called Sent, which sometimes has another copy of the email I sent and is sometimes empty. But it always creates this folder on my mail server when I send an email through Thunderbird.

Is the mail server in any way related to gmail?
