Err, I think you misunderstand the process. Thunderbird will load a list of all your mail. That is how it works. There is no setting to display 10 or 50 or 5000, just a scroll to scroll through the list of emails.

Matt, I did not state my problem correctly. I cannot adjust the Font Size of the page of displayed messages. When I open each message, i can then zoom in or out as i want to. The Zoom feature on the message page only seems to be set and cannot be changed.

What you want is to change the font in the Threads Pane. There is a long topic that presents two main options: change a preference in Config. editor that zooms the entire display, or create a userChrome.css file to set the font for the Threads and Folder Panes.
