I am unable to get Thunderbird to display the correct name for an email recipient in Filters and Search, and I cannot determine where the name is being pulled from.

Here is the address book with the correct name: address book

Here is the Filter screen with the incorrect name: https://i.imgur.com/60xLiP0.png

Here is the Search function with the incorrect name: https://i.imgur.com/YvutE7E.png

I checked Thunderbird's Account Settings and Options and there isn't any instance of either the correct or incorrect name in there. I even checked the Google account and that name doesn't appear there either.

Help please?

Oops. Forgot to blur something. The address book entry image is now here: https://i.imgur.com/EbLEGx9.png

It would be much easier if you posted images into this forum question.

The address book search returned two options. You have highlighted the second one, but what details First, Last and Display name for the first search entry ?

In image of search result, you have highlighted one person. It also says there are 574 listed - confirm the name you are looking for is not in that list.

If this is your account then what name have you got in the Account Settings under Default Identity.?

Thank you for taking the time to respond; I appreciate it!

Yes, apologies, but I didn't see the button at the bottom until I had posted. Although I am kinda glad I didn't at first, because I don't see the option to edit and I forgot to blur out info in that first image!

The first search entry in the address book doesn't have the incorrect name at all; it's just a repeat of what's already displayed. (image uploaded)

The name I am looking for (or expecting to see—Rocio Lopez) does not show up directly in search. There are a handful of "Rocio Lopez via Paypal" results. This underscores my confusion about where the "Filters" and search results is pulling name labels from; there is no occurrence of that phrase in the email itself or my address book.

It isn't my account; it's my wife's but we have different last names. My name is in the Default Identity, but I can't imagine Thunderbird would make that kind of association and appellation. The email address in question (my wife's) is a Gmail address being forwarded to our ISP email account (in my name), which is what Thunderbird POPs mail from.

I forgot to add to the initial post that while the Filter and Search shows the incorrect name, the email itself, in preview panes and when click from the search results, does show the correct name. (image uploaded)

I appreciate any further insight you or anyone else could provide.

What version of Thunderbird are you using?

My current version (78) offers details of the actual location of the entry being used when I click on the star. It also offers to edit details and opens the relevant card for editing.

Thanks for your response! I'm also on 78 (78.10.1) and mine has the same behavior, but it still shows the incorrect name in "Filters", search bar, and search results.

re: Although I am kinda glad I didn't at first, because I don't see the option to edit The posted comment will show a 3 vertical dot icon on far right, which is a menu option with 'Edit this post'.

I don't blame you for not knowing this. It took me ages to discover. I'm not a fan of icons with no Text and no tooltips especially when there is so much space available. They could improve to make more obvious. I suppose they used that icon because it represents a bullet point list, so implies a sub menu of options.

maybe just rebuild the database. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database

Thank you so much! This fixed the issue: the name now displays correctly in all areas.

Thank you for the information! However, it appears that the original post cannot be edited. Gotta be careful with sensitive info in the initial question!
