Some email attachments won't open. Word docs are OK but PDFs and some others can only be opened by saving them elsewhere and then opening. This has not been a problem before.

Just change the setting already. Thunderbird changed how it manages PDF files! Did you miss it when I said that. You need to change it back to how you had it as it appears to be concerning you. otherwise PDF files will be opened in Thunderbird in a tab.

Open Preferences and check the Files & Attachments section. Change the options for each affected file type as deemed fit.

It's PDFs that don't open and I've checked Files & Attachments which already shows PDF's as default.

The current version of Thunderbird opens PDF files internally. Perhaps look again at the setting and pick the external program you used to use.

I've never changed the program. It shows PDF default so I assume that is what it showed previously. I think I have the current version of T/B - 91.2
