Bookmarks not migrated to new phone after using "copy apps & data"

more options

Hey,

I had to replace my Android phone and send the old one in. I had the google cloud backup activated + used the transfer data and apps function when migrating (Android to Android). However, it seems like my bookmarks are gone, I guess there is no way to get them back. Is this correct behavior?

I understand that there is Firefox sync and save feature (which I use on my personal device). However my understanding was that migrating phones with the "copy apps & data" function should migrate things seamless without having to worry about custom logins in each app. Did I do something wrong? Or is this understanding wrong? If so, would this be different in ios (this was a very painful experience that I don't want to repeat)?

Thanks for your help & sorry if this is only partially Firefox specific and partially about my general understanding.

Hi

I think I can see what has happened here. The Google Cloud backup only covers the Google apps and services on your device.

Firefox Sync is not a cloud backup service and is designed to sync bookmarks between copies of Firefox.

Thanks. So there is no process of automatically migrating all app data (e.g. firefox settings and bookmarks, but similar with other apps) when migrating android phones at all?

Is this the same with ios? (would love to avoid such things in the future)

Hi

If you still have the old device, you could use Firefox Sync to send the data between the devices and sync your bookmarks across.

Yes, I believe that it is very similar with iOS devices.

Sadly already factory reset it and send it in. I am mainly surprised that there is no way to avoid such a thing in the future (on a all app level), like a system level .config folder that gets backed up to the cloud.

But that's out of scope for here. Thanks again!
