There is more than one account set up in Thunderbird, for this problem, if I can solve it for two accounts I can likely get it working for the rest as well. Hotmail accounts/Outlook. All of the accounts receive e-mail no problems. The new Oauth2 is set up and working. But when attempting to SEND a message, every time I must manually edit the "account" to use to match whichever account I am sending from. It is crazy, setting the outgoing smtp server 'user name' to use logging in on the outgoing server, just uses the latest one it is set to.

Sometimes if I forget to change it a message will pop up that e-mail can't be sent from whatever the other login is. It is almost like it expects to have a master account that all of the other accounts send e-mail through.

Tried setting up a second 'identity' but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. Why can't the outgoing user account be set for each account independently?

This is a common problem where two or more accounts are attempting to use the same SMTP server. To resolve this, my suggestion is to:

  1. click to 'account settings' and then locate the 'Outgoing Server SMTP)' link in left column below accounts
  2. that lists all SMTP servers and there should be one for each account
  3. click 'edit' on each one and update the DESCRIPTION field of each to be unique
  4. then, click 'account settings' and highlight an account and review the bottom line of that pane which shows the SMTP server. It should display the unique name you assigned to it. Then, repeat for the other account. This is your assurance that each account has its own SMTP server defined.
