Firefox browser doesn't loose anything during updates - it's what the users does during this process that anything can happen. If the user doesn't go "Custom" during updates - this instance will keep everything as is and should open back to all user settings or reopen all sessions as before without anything be lost. But if the user closes everything before updating it stand to reason those will be gone as well. And your explanation of can't loose anything doesn't explain what is going as well.
