Why don't all of my extensions load at start?

I upgraded to 3.6.8 and this problem continues into 3.6.9. I check the compatibility of all of my extensions that I use and all are currently compatible. But until I "check for updates", only about half load.

I have uninstalled each add-on that won't load automatically and individually reinstalled them. Each time, they won't load until I check for updates through the add-on window.

Once I Check for Updates through the add-ons window, each of the disabled add-ons notes "A compatibility update has been applied", despite the fact they're compatible, and when Firefox is restarted using the Restart Firefox button, all my add-ons work. They will NEVER load unless I do the "Check for Updates" option.

They have all been uninstalled at one point or another, Firefox restarted and reinstalled, to no effect. They still won't load at all until the Check for Updates button in the Add-ons window is clicked and the "Compatibility update" is applied. Once that is applied, they will load fine, even if Firefox is closed and restarted. They won't load again if the computer itself is restarted.

How can I get them to load without constantly

Try the section on corrupt extension files in the unable to install add-ons article. If one of those files is corrupt it can cause problems with add-ons not working. Deleting those files forces Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions and can resolve problems with using extensions.

No joy on that one. I followed the instructions explicitly. The extensions still won't load without using the Check Updates in the Add-Ons window.

Any other suggestions?

I also noticed that when I did look for updates and restarted Firefox, everything was re-enabled and started - even the extensions I had deliberately disabled. Not sure why, but it may be a clue for you folks.

It still sounds that the extensions.rdf registry file gets removed or corrupted if you need to apply a compatibility check to make extensions work.

Do you have security software that might protect files in the Firefox Profile Folder and cause that to happen?

No, that didn't work, either. Both the Programs File and the profiles folders are exempted, but still no loading at start-up.

It appears that the BitDefender Antiphishing addon tool may be the culprit. I recently updated BitDefender 2010 to 2011 and my extensions have all decided to load. Note, the new installed version does NOT have any of the exclusions of the old one. Also note that I can't seem to get rid of the antiphishing toolbar extension, but I can turn it off. I have disabled it in BitDefender.

Thus far, it's all working fine now.
