I want to change the mail program that mailto links use. However, the mailto link is not found in the Tools->options->Applications list. How can I add this, or possibly uncover it so it is visible in the list?

It should be one of the defaults. The following will reset the download actions to their defaults:

  1. Open the profile folder as shown in the profiles article
  2. Close Firefox
  3. Rename mimeTypes.rdf to mimeTypes.rdf.old
  4. Restart Firefox, the applications list should now include mailto, but you may have to reset other download actions
