I went to skype and clicked on the windows edition and attempted to download. a box popped up and asked me to save to computer. I clicked save but a message appeared at the bottom of the box saying "canceled". I did not understand why, so I clicked the refresh button on the side of the save box and it uploaded ok. What happened next is puzzling. I could not find the install button for skype in either my desktop or documents folder. I checked my download folder. It was not there. What happened to it? Did the firewall on windows delete it? I tried to ask customer service but they are not sure either. Does firefox have issues w/ using skype?

I would suspect that your Anti-Virus application blocked that download. Have you tried downloading it using IE?

As far as Firefox and Skype, Firefox doesn't "use" Skype, and Skype doesn't need Firefox to work. But there is a problem with the Skype Toolbar extension for Firefox causing all sorts of problems for many Firefox users. Currently the Skype extension is blocklisted by Mozilla due to all the crashes is it responsible for in 3.6.13 and the 4.0betas.
