In FF 3 the cache was cleared when a website was refreshed. In FF 4 that's not the case any more. For instance. at http://www.virtualregatta.com there is a refresh every 10 minutes and a program VRTool on my desktop uses some of the data to draw a route in the game screen. Now it can't after the initial download because the number it uses keeps increasing because the old data isn't removed beforehand like it used to be. That means also that the cache keeps growing.

It depends on the cache settings of the page and what the headers say Firefox should store the data until. You can always force it by holding shift when you refresh.

The idea with VRTool is that it logs your progress in the game on http://www.virtualregatta.com even when your not around. If I have to hold the shift key it's no use to me.

With HttpFox the data in FF 4.0 is stored in the same folder as with FF 3.6.16 but the old data isn't removed first. Ergo the cache keeps growing and that is also not useful. http://www.tecepe.com.br/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=189&sid=99165b53a282546b9c35e21e09f1e9eb for more info about VRTool and FF 4.

Why are the FF 3 settings changed in FF 4 for the worst.
