Firefox is showing as taking up 26.85MB of space.. Why is this?
Firefox 3.6.24 is supposed to take up 7.25MB - yet on my computer it is showing as being 26.85MB. Could you tell me why this is and how I should fix this - and if it is something I've may have done in error. Thankyou.

I am not sure where you got the 7.25MB.
Here are the facts from my XP Pro system:
- The installer file that you downloaded for Firefox 3.6.24 should be 7706KB (7.5MB more or less)
- The installer file is a packed/compressed file (zip or zip-like executable file) with an uncompressed size of 28.119,816 bytes (27.46MB more or less); not all of that is installed on your hard drive, but most of it is. This is the case with most installer packages.
- On my system in the Windows program listing (in Control Panel to Remove the program), my Firefox 3.6.25 shows 27.73MB
- The installer package for Firefox 3.6.25 is negligibly larger (<2,000 bytes) than the Firefox 3.6.24 installer.
- It has long been known that the Windows value shown is not 100% accurate
- See --> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/gg558108.aspx
- On my system, the Firefox Program installation folder includes files and folders containing a total of 27.7MB (28,581,955 bytes)
So what does your system show? And where did you get the 7.25MB?

The 7.25 MB size is probably the size of the Firefox installer as downloaded from the Mozilla server.
That file is a 7-ZIP archive and if the files are uncompressed after the installation then they take a lot more space (26.5 MB).
The Firefox profile folder takes a lot more space.
I downloaded FF 3.6.24 from the Oldapps site - where it was shown as 7.52MB (not 7.25 as I typed!). In the Programs list - it shows as 26.85MB.
I wasn't sure if I had downloaded it more than once!! - as it showed the higher figure and not 7.52MB. Thanks for your explanation. k
Is there anything I should do with the Profile folder to reduce the total size (26.85MB)? Or should I just not worry about it any more - seeing as I haven't made an error and installed the same file more than once!
Please also see my other reply.
Thanks for your explanation. k
No, kathk128, the Profile folder is where your personal information (bookmarks, passwords, etc.), extensions and settings are stored. I can only assume that link was posted to indicate that additional space on your hard drive is used by your Profile folder.

EDIT (Added)
To determine the amount of space used by your Profile, in Firefox 3.6.24, click Help > Troubleshooting Information, then on the new tab/window click "Open Containing Folder" to the right of "Profile Directory". Do not delete anything from there.
My Profile directory consumes 42.1MB.
If your concern is hard drive space, maybe it is time to delete (or move to CD/DVD or other storage) any unneeded files, videos, photos, etc., and/or delete old, unused programs OR have a new hard drive installed as your main hard drive (can be complicated) or as a secondary hard drive to store all of the photos, videos, etc.
