Firefox immediately crashes whenever I try to download files, upload files, or import my bookmarks from a file. Basically, if I try to do anything that would require navigating a folder to select a file the browser crashes, and it doesn't let me submit an error report either. I haven't had any problem simply dragging and dropping files to upload them, but I pretty much can't download anything at this point unless I drag and drop image files or force all downloads into one folder. The problem persists even in safe mode.

I recently reformatted so this is a fresh Firefox install, and I have made sure Vista was completely updated, and I've updated my drivers as well.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Your problem seems similar to this one:

So .... You can try the solution in comment 6 of this bug report:

Quote:

I found out that an option in Microsoft File Explorer caused the crash. To solve this:

- Go to "Organize"
- Choose "Folder and search options"
- uncheck "Automatically expand to current folder"

Note that this setting is on the " General" tab of "Folder Options", which you can also access from Windows Control Panel.

Disregard my previous reply, suggesting that you uncheck "Automatically expand to current folder" in your Windows Folder Options, General tab. I did some checking and "Automatically expand to current folder" is a Windows 7 setting. Unless I'm mistaken, that setting isn't available on Windows Vista (see this page for more information).
