Recently update to FF16. Old version worked fine. Java blocked so updated from v6.37 to 7U9. Flash just disappeared!

Installed both new versions and installers said everything went fine. Still, when I go to sites with offending media (eg. Youtube, Netdania.com charts) I cannot view. Both work in IE

Have uninstalled and re-installed both plugins repeatedly without success.

SUCCESS !!!!

Bottom line. Reinstall.

After doing the above mentioned clean ups of files, registry, extensions, etc. with no success I resorted to a full on uninstall-reinstall cycle (FF 16.02) complete with a reboot and CCleaner session for good measure. That seems to have done the trick. Flash and Java fully restored.

I guess the original problem (still don't know what it was) was the result of some tweak(s) I had made in the past that came back to bite me. The re-install seems to have fixed everything up.

btw. The first thing I did was to use the FEBE extension to back up all my extensions and bookmarks. I still had to reenter the desired settings and options once they were restored but that was a minor thing.

Hope this helps someone that's going through the same thing.

Did you install the 32 bit Java version because Firefox is a 32 bit application and doesn't work with 64 bit Java?

more options

Yes. I installed both 32 and 64. Then uninstalled both. Then just 32 bit. Nada.

I just don't get why FF won't see the plugins. As I said, the big ugly (IE) browser can seem them but FF can't.

I ran the installers normally and specifying 'Run as Administrator'. Neither worked.

I also cannot remove the Java 6.35 and 6.37 extensions. There's no remove button....just Disable (I did).

See:

Ty to run the Java installer as Administrator to make sure that the appropriate registry keys get created, so that Firefox can find the Java plugin via a registry scan.

Partial resolution ... I thought ... alas, no

I had FlashBlock (FB) installed which normally isn't a problem. Turns out FB needs Java installed to work so I thought since I can't install Java then everything Flash was not able to function.

Disabled FlashBlocker but still can't get things to work. I thought I had success but as it turns out my test video just didn't have any Flash in it.

Basic problem remains .... it appears I cannot load ANY new plugins in FF16? Truly weird.

JAVA Tried to uninstall Java 7 AND 6 from Control Panel ->Uninstall. It removed 7 but on 6. It came up with a missing DLL error. So, I manually deleted all the Java folders from Program Files/Program FIles(x86) but I cannot get the Java 6 reference out of the Uninstall list!.

Perhaps FF problem stems from the residual registry keys for v. 6. I expect there's some way to manually get it out of the registry but there were all sorts of keys that had the word Java in them and I don't want to just start ripping things out.

Try to uninstall Java with the JavaRa program and reinstall (32 bit) Java.

Thanks for the JavaRa link. Sadly, no joy.

JavaRa says the latest version is installed when checked offline but online it says no. Google Chrome sees it, IE sees it. Everyone sees it but FF !

I also manually disabled all other extensions and plugins, then reinstalled JRE running as 'administrator', then opened FF 'as administrator' and still it won't see it!!! Dang!

Also cleaned out orphaned disabled extensions (that didn't have 'remove' buttons) and several wayward Java 6.0.37 keys from the registry..

Nothing seems to work.

Update....

On the bright side, I've cleaned up a ton of crap that was in my C: \Users\Me.... folders.

I did discover that the Users folder and all sub folders were marked as Read Only. Changed that and did a Java reinstall but that didn't fix it.

I even downloaded the new FF 17 Beta in the hopes that that would magically fix things. Almost worked. At least now FF says I have to install the plugin (as it does with Flash). I do the installs and it all seems to go well but in the end it just doesn't see them.

Does anyone have any ideas of where I can find some other plugin to try. I'd like to try and see if it's just that, for some reason, FF now will not install any plugin. I thought there used to be a dedicated plugin section in the Get Addons site but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks
