Google Maps: pan and zoom controls don't appear. 'Stickpin' markers may appear once, then disappear.
When loading Google Maps, either direct or when embedded in other sites, the pan and zoom controls are not showing. 'Stickpin' location markers may appear once, but disappear after doing anything with the map. I am running latest Windows XP and latest Firefox. This problem is of long standing and has stayed the same over several different versions of Firefox and Windows updates. I have tried 'CTRL-0' with no effect.

Problem solved by doing 'Reset Firefox'. Before that, tried 'Safe Mode', no difference. Not aware of any limits on cookies or memory use. Left-side controls (Pan, zoom) for Google Maps were definitely there, and in usual correct positions and sizing, and could be found with the cursor and activate, but 'phantoms' which weren't displaying. Same problem whether content was maps or satellite pix. Reset solved the problem.

Do you have any restrictions on Google's use of cookies or local storage? Do you notice any different logged in vs. logged out of your Google account? Have you tested with your extensions disabled?
I was going to suggest zoom, but it sounds as though you have reset zoom. Note that when Google Maps is framed, the reset might not drill down into the framed page; I should test that.
These threads were along the zoom lines, but not resolved. Might be something here you haven't tried?
If you are missing pins/icons hosted on a different site, perhaps: My own Google Map icons are not visible in Firefox 8 (mozillaZine Forums).

Thank you for reporting back. You might want to retain the Old Firefox Data folder (added to your desktop by the reset feature) for a couple of weeks until you are sure you haven't lost any irreplaceable data from your old Firefox settings.
