What is a "live bookmark," and how can I make sure none of my bookmarks are live?

I'm trying to reduce Firefox's voluminous automatic Internet communication (see previous thread at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968773#question-reply for background). As far as I know, I have not subscribed to any news-feeds nor clicked on "subscribe to this page."

One thing I don't understand is how to tell whether any of my bookmarks are "live," or whether any of the sites I normally visit automatically refresh their open pages on my browser. I can find no entries on Mozilla Support that even explain what a "live bookmark" is.

Can somebody please:

1) define a "live bookmark,"

2) tell me how to identify one in my bookmarks sidebar (or elsewhere),

3) tell me how to change any "live bookmark" into and ordinary (dead) bookmark, and

4) tell me how to prevent any open Web pages from automatically updating on my browser? (Internet Explorer used to have options for when a page should be updated, including "never.")

I'm currently running Firefox 24.0 under Windows XP SP3. Thanks in advance! -- JCW2

Keazen oplossing

See the How to stop Firefox from making automatic connections article.

Live bookmarks, are not enabled by defualt, unless you enable them (the item will always show).
