Computer crashed, new computer how do I find lost bookmarks?

more options

My old computer crashed [Windows 8.1]. I have a new computer [8.1]. I do not know about file saving. If my old bookmarks still exist in some form of Firefox storage, I would like to know how to recover them. If the old bookmarks do not exist in any form of storage in Firefox, then I would know to stop trying to recover them.

I do have the old bookmarks in a Word document (30 pages). Can the Word document be loaded into Firefox? I have tried converting it into HTML, but when loading it into Firefox I get strings of computer code instead of bookmarks.

Your bookmarks and history are stored in the places.sqlite file in your Firefox profile folder. While Firefox is closed, you can replace the current file with the old one. Doing so will replace your current set of bookmarks and history. You may want to backup the current file beforehand.

The bookmarkbackups folder under the profile folder contains automatic backups of your bookmarks. These backups can be restored, replacing your current set of bookmarks with the old one.
