FF 26, Kubuntu 12.04, trying to move the icons around on the addon bar but it seems it has two zones. Zone one has a normal background (showing my persona) and contains icons for Personas Plus, CS Lite mod, ABP, and the little red X circle to close the bar. Zone two has a striped "hazard" background over the persona and contains FontFinder, DownloadHelper and Simple Clocks.

I can move anything in each of the zones, but I cannot move items from one zone to another zone, they are locked in two sections.

Is this normal for the addon bar now? Is there a way to make it all one zone?

The striped zone is the legacy statusbar section of the add-on bar. The statusbar was used in versions of Firefox prior to Firefox 4; icons / buttons are placed there by extensions and the user has little (via an extension made to allow for rearranging the statusbar) to no ability to move those items. The Status-4-Evar extension provides the greatest amount of user configuration currently possible for the add-on bar / statusbar.

Sorry, there is no way to mix items between the 2 "zones". And when the Australis UI is released (probably Firefox 29) the add-on bar / statusbar won't exist any longer.

Awesome answer.

So I just did a fresh install, since I was having some problems, and the previous FF was not as messed up as this one. The fresh install actually is worse (regarding the addon bar).

Do you know why there is a legacy version showing up in a completely fresh install? I only restored bookmarks, all other settings/folders were deleted before this fresh install.

So do you know why they would delete the addon bar? I heavily rely on it. Are all the contents going to be moved to the top of the screen? I like change and improvements, I hate when things I use multiple times an hour are removed. Any info would be helpful.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Ubuntu 64-bit versions of Firefox, Ubuntu builds that version and there are differences from the official Mozilla builds.

Australis is built primarily for mobile devices and touch screens, those of us using desktop / laptop devices will be stuck with a UI that differs greatly from what we are accustomed to having. Other than the Find Bar the bottom of the browser window won't have any UI beyond page loading URL's that disappear when the page is fully loaded.

Basically, Australis looks more like Google Chrome than like previous and current versions of Firefox. Many of us feel that the level of customization available is reduced from what we are used to and enjoyed going all the way back to the early versions of Phoenix in 2002 -2003.

Take a look at the mozillaZine Builds forum for a good number of discussions about Australis or UX that have taken place over the last year to two as it was being developed. You will need to either search or go thru many pages of threads to locate those discussions, as those threads got out of hand frequently and most are now locked.

There is an extension to re-adds back some features including the Add-on Bar to the Firefox Australis version.
