Hi.

With FF 29, I frequently get a popup message saying that "Firefox is already running" and I have to kill that process and restart the browser under XP. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks.

UPDATE

Note one potential fix is now in the very recent Firefox Beta 30b8 Initial reports suggest this fixes the issue. (Bug1005487#c38) If you have been suffering from this problem and want a fix now instead of in a few weeks time you may wish to download and install the Beta version of Firefox.

The beta version is effectively a release candidate but is only intended for advanced users or testers. I would be interested to hear feedback from those of you that do test this out.

Hello to all, 2 UNRESOLVED bugs in 29.0 and 29.0.1 = Slow shut downs lead to 'Firefox is already running' warning.

Bug 966469 and Bug 985655, please do not comment on bug reports, is for developers.

My experience: This issue (error message that Firefox is already running and so cannot open) continued for me with FF 29 until I unchecked "Clear history when Firefox closes". This unchecking may be a necessary condition for solving this annoying problem, but my evidence leaves open the possibility that my problem was solved by a combination of this unchecking plus one of the many other solutions that I have already tried, most or all of them already mentioned in Mozilla support pages. It is very important to me that I am able to check the 'Clear history...' option, so I will for now just use Task Manager to close Firefox all the way, hoping a real solution turns up soon.

@Quencho and others:

On the two XP systems that are in question, I unchecked the box to Clear History When Firefox Closes, which is reachable for me via:

Tools -> Options -> Privacy. The problem appears to have gone away.

However, I still have to delete History manually prior to closing the broswer.

Obviously this is a bit inconvenient.

Any idea when this will be fixed under 29.0.1?

Thanks Quencho for the heads-up!

Hi.

This problem is solved for me.

Should I mark it as solved or leave it open for all others who still have it?

Clearing history avoids the problem, but it is only a 'work round'.

Had the same problem with FF29. Deactivated the "delete history" option --> problem was gone. Reactivated the option --> problem came back. I'll stick to private browsing until it will be fixed.
