Why does clicking Reply All put my recipient in a Reply To field?

(1) I'm not sure why this is happening but say I have an email from me to John and cc Fred. I want to send another email to John and Fred but don't want to have to copy their email addresses in again, so I right-click my message and click "Reply All".

Instead of putting John in the "To" line and Fred in the "cc" line, or even both of them in the "To" line, Thunderbird puts John in a "Reply To" line with Fred as a "cc". So my email doesn't reach John, and Fred's attempt to reply goes to John instead. How do I fix this?

(2) On a slightly related topic, is there a way to put a "Reply All" button above messages so I don't have to right-click them and select Reply All from the menu that appears each time?

Thanks!

It's not usually good for your correspondents to create a new message from an old message because each message contains references to prior messages, and your new message may well appear at the end of a conversation thread rather than as a bright shiny new message. Perhaps Edit As New might be cleaner…

I'm alarmed that you think entering TWO email addresses is onerous. Are you not using autocompletion? Have you considered using a Mailing List for frequently-contacted correspondents?

All of your Toolbars can be customized. Right-click the toolbar in question, or use the menu in the relevant window (i.e. the window with the toolbar in question): View|Toolbars|Customize and you can add, re-arrange and remove toolbar controls to suit your needs and taste.

Which version of Thunderbird is this? Anything being added to the Reply-to: automatically in the way you describe is well out of order. That sounds like a bug that needs to be reported.
