HI,

I've reinstalled Firefox on a Win7 computer (the old Firefox stooped working for some reason). Now when I click on it, it opens a small window in the top left corner of my computer. I can't maximize it, can't move or resize it. I can only press X to close it. When I press X it gives me the error: "Firefox is not responding ...... Problem details: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows Hang Signature: eb14

I've reinstalled it a couple of times. Every time it starts perfect the first time, then has the same problem.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

HI and thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately holding Shift and clicking on Mozilla does nothing at all. So I'll have to uninstall it and install it again in order to be able to open it one time. Then I'll try to put it into save mode before closing and being unable to open it again.

Also please consider the following information's: 1. Mozilla had a clean install, so there are no addons, themes or extensions 2. When I press Ctrl+Shift+Del (Task manager) in Applications I do not see Mozilla, but in .Processes I see Mozilla 3 times!

I've just reinstalled Mozilla and place it into save mode. Everything worked fine.

Closed Mozilla and tried to restart it. Nothing happened so I'm back to having the same problem again :(

Update 3:

I've uninstall and reinstalled Mozilla again, so I can open it one time and uncheck the hardware acceleration. Then I closed and reopened it.

Same problem: After 30 seconds it starts as a very small rectangle in the top left corner of the screen. I can't maximize or even resize it. There are only 2 options: Minimize or close. And when I press X to close it, I get the same error as in the first post.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
