My extensions will not stay enabled on my desktop computer although they remain enabled on my laptop.
My extensions will not stay enabled. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox several times. I have followed Mozilla Support suggestions to delete various files from my profile folder (the extensions files, the pref.js) so that Firefox can recreate them. Nothing works. The extensions will remain enabled for a while, then upon launch I get a series of tabs asking to enable. I can't find anything further do do. I use an HP machine with Windows 7.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
Did you try to delete compatibility.ini as well?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
Creating a new profile didn't help.
