I use firefox sync across Windows and Mac. In both I've UN-selected the option for "remember site passwords". Today, every time I open FF this option has been changed so that FF prompts me to remember a password. I've repeated the process multiple times but the behavior continues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Did you turn that option off on the other sync's?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Thanks. I use a pswrd manager so this is always a setting I turn off universally. Regardless, I did check and confirmed it is unchecked on my home machine (mac).

This did make me realize that this problem is only affecting my work laptop (Dell)

I had already tried FF's "refresh/rest" process without luck. I tried starting in Safe mode on 12/15 and used FF for a while. I then closed it and re-opened it normally. I didn't actually change any extensions or add-ons. For whatever reason, it appears that just starting it in safe mode has resolved the problem, as it hasn't reoccurred since 12/15. Thanks!
