Adobe Flash Crashes when protected mode is turned on.

- Problem started about 2 weeks ago. No user software changes. - I installed the latest video driver - I turned off HW acceleration in FF and Flash - Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of flash - Firefox upgraded to the latest version during this process and it didn't help. - Disabling the other add-ins didn't help - Upgrading to the latest MS updates didn't help - The problem does NOT occur if someone RDPs into the computer - The problem does not affect Chrome or IE - The only thing that prevents FF from crashing is turning off protected mode under Firefox's Flash plugin options.

"We've made some educated guesses about your current browser and operating system" Any analysis of the computer I'm using to post this is a waste of time. The problem occurs on a customer's computer.

I don't know why Protected Mode causes crashes or performance issues on some systems and not others. That feature involves inter-process communications -- a stub in the plugin-container.exe coordinates the launch of external Flash processes -- so there may be security or privilege settings or security software on the system that affect how well that works. I suspect if Adobe could solve it on their side they would have done so by now. I haven't checked their forums for a while to see whether there are any discussions that might point toward a cause.

To check whether a Firefox setting is the cause of the problem, the user could try creating a new Firefox profile for testing, but I suspect it's something external.

For reference: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles (I suggest using the Profile Manager to create and switch between profiles, but not to delete any because it's too easy to accidentally delete the wrong one.)

That was the first thing I did before making any other tests.

Hi! Do you have a 64 bit system? If so you could test firefox 64-bit, flash player may work better on this version of the browser. For me that's the case.

>Do you have a 64 bit system?< Yes, and I'm the latest Firefox, which is 32-bit, and the Adobe Flash Player 23 NPAPI, which is also 32 bit and the version of flash Adobe installs for Firefox. The plugin is located in both System32 and SysWow64 as it is supposed to be.
