Suddenly my mail is displayed in alphabetical order by senders name rather than by date of receipt?

Normally when I open my Thunderbird mail the most recent mail is displayed at the top of the page with older mail listed below the most recent in order of date of receipt. Now the mail is shown with senders name listed in alphabetical order regardless of date of receipt

You can sort the message list on most of its columns. Just click where it says "Date". There is one column that doesn't sort, but if you click its label it toggles between Threaded and Unthreaded views.

For more explicit sorting options, enable the menu using alt or F10, then go to View|Sort By.

I use sorting by different columns (subject, sender, date) to help find and organise messages. Sorting is a tool provided for your convenience. Don't be afraid to use it constructively.

Thanks very much for your help. Such a simple solution, I'm afraid I'm showing my age :-)
