bookmark performance
Hello,
I've almost 6000 bookmark on Firefox and the file where they are stored ( places.sqlite ) in the directory profile is over ten megabyte in size.
Does a lot of bookmark slow down Firefox ? If I delete all bookmarks, can I see a performance boost ?
Thank you.

hi, the places.sqlite database (which also stores your history) grows in steps of 10MB - so you're still at its initial level. i don't think that clearing your bookmarks would give you a noticeable performance boost at this stage.

Hi.
The places.sqlite file stores bookmarks and history, so the total amount of there determine the size of the file. When necessary then places.sqlite is enlarged with an extra 10 MB chunks like posted above, this file only gets smaller when you VACUUM the file (e.g. via Help -> Troubleshooting Information or Places Maintenance). Firefox needs to check if the link you visit is a bookmark or history and thus a large amount of items stored in places.sqlite can slow down opening a link since the visit count and other data may have to be updated.
Are you experiencing delays when you open a link?
Note that this can have other causes like an extension.
In the last few days I've noticed that sometimes FF was slow and lagging when scrolling pages and switching tabs, so I've investigated the bookmark aspect.
I've installed Adblock Plus and FireShot extensions only.
Probably the latest version of FF or one of the plug-in above has some problems that will be fixed with a new version.
I've no delays opening links.
in case you have adblock plus version 2.9 - there are currently a number of reports that this recent update causes poor performance, please try to replace it with https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ and see if the issue is still there.

Yes, I've Adblock Plus version 2.9.
I'm going to make some test to see if I solve.
I've just removed Adblock Plus and installed u-Block: the first impression is a noticeable faster page load, but I need more time to speak about FF slow and lagging when scrolling pages and switching tabs.
Even though in the past I've read many positive reviews about u-Block Origin, I've always chosen Adblock Plus based on the plug-in installed base: 17.521.021 users vs 3.975.431.
It seems that the overall speed of the browser is much better with u-Block Origin, also the problem of FF slow and lagging when scrolling pages and switching tabs seems gone.
