Mcafee came with my computer and kept sending buy notices. I went to Control Panel and uninstalled the only Mcafee item there which was LiveSafe. Since then Thunderbird has not downloaded any emails the last ones being on 8 June. I have Windows 10 and the latest version on Thunderbird.

No, Thunderbird was completely unchanged. I'm just going to try a couple of things and if there's no improvement I'll send the troubleshooting info. Many thanks for responding

What I have done is to set up a new profile - and it works! I can select the new one for emails from now onwards and the old one if I want to look at emails before 8 June. It suggests the uninstalling of Mcafee messed up the profile in some way maybe with a Registry entry. But it will do.
