Hi there I'm a long time TB user, all great for years. I've just started getting an ALERT as follows:

"An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: smtp1.paradise.net.nz"

The message does not actually get sent, I've checked. I can still received messages. Thanks

I think you need to edit your settings under Tools/Account Settings/Outgoing Server (SMTP) to use smtp.paradise.net.nz (or smtp.clear.net.nz) on port 25, Connection security = none and Authentication = no authentication.

This will only work when you're on the Vodafone network.

Thanks for the advice. The settings you advise are all good - but have been so for several years, which is why I'm surprised by this glitch, as I haven't recently changed anything.

Can this be viral or a hack?

The error message indicates you're trying to connect to smtp1.paradise.net.nz, but that server cannot be reached by ping. An 'incorrect greeting' can also be the result of trying to send on port 25 with no security, when you're on a non-vodafone network.
