Hello, I am looking for help deleting my Sync account. I remember my password but have lost my recovery keys and therefore cannot regain access to my account to disable two-factor-authentication. I have tried resetting my password several times but have not been able to bypass 2FA. What I want to do is completely delete my current Sync account associated with my primary email address, then create a new Sync account using the same email address. Is this possible? I was able to copy my saved logins and bookmarks so I am okay with everything getting erased and starting over, I'd just like to use my primary email address. Thank you!

Resetting the sync password, or changing its e-mail, will remove all data from the servers.

This is a security feature. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ive-lost-my-firefox-sync-account-information

  • I've lost my Firefox Sync account information - What to do
  • I’ve forgotten, or don't have access to, my Firefox Account email address

Shut down the old sync. Then create a new account.

Thank you, Fred! That is good to know that my information should be deleted from the servers. Do you know will I ever be able to use my original email address again to create the new account, or must it be different? When I have attempted to use my old email address to create a new Sync account, it has said "account already exists". I am confused because that makes it sound like my information is still there on the server and I'm not allowed to use my old email again. Thanks very much!

Just change the password on the account.

Thank you, Fred. I have changed the password several times, but without either a 6-character code or 12-character recovery key I cannot get through to the Sync settings panel to disable 2FA or delete my account, etc. It looks as though I will never be able to regain full control over my account, and that's okay, but I do want to be certain that it is fully removed from the server, and ideally I would like to be able to use that same email address to create a brand new Sync account from scratch. Is there any way to permanently delete my account without going through 2FA? Otherwise that inactive account will just sit on the server forever if no one is able to delete it. Thank you!

Okay so am I to conclude that it is now impossible to completely delete my old Sync account from the server and create a new one using the same email address? I understand that by changing the password I have made the data irretrievable, but when I go to create a brand new account using the same email address it says "Account already exists". I really need to be able to receive security emails and other correspondence from Mozilla to my main email account instead of having to create some other account purely for the purpose of creating this new Sync profile. Could you please flag this question for an Administrator? I'd be very grateful if you did. Thanks and best regards.
