Why are popstate-xx.dat email folders appearing
I have a number of users (about 120) using thunderbird. All users are at least on 60.X. All users are set up to POP. Some users, not all, are receiving popstate-xx.dat mail folder creations. All users are setup using the default settings and locations. We do run antivirus software, Trend Micro worry free business. Users delete the folders daily only to have them come back regularly. This just started happening about 2 weeks ago. I am trying things I have found online but nothing is working. I made exceptions in Trend C:\ALLUSERSAPPDATA\Local\Thuderbird\Profiles C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles
The issue still exists for the users affected by it.

Thunderbird profiles are not kept in 'Local'. That is a folder used by the OS for cache etc. They should be here...in 'Roaming' C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles
Something, probably a scan by AV, has corrupted the original popstate.dat' file and new ones are being reproduced.
Exit Thunderbird. Access : C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\profile name folder\Mail\pop mail account name folder. delete all 'popstate.dat' files.
Start Thunderbird A new popstate.dat file will be created.
'popstate.dat' file keeps a record of what has been downloaded so it is not downloaded twice. The only downside of deleting this file is that all emails currently in server Inbox will be downloaded even if downloaded previously.
Thank you very much. I will try that. We have a very heavy volume of email usage here and I know they won't be happy about have dupes created but if that's what it takes. I have also added the exception in Trend to the roaming profile so I will see if that helps. Thanks again for the reply
Fantastic! Thanks!
