I have saved logins and passwords. Lately when I log in to a site, I'm asked if i want to update my password. which I have not chnaged,, If I check update then my password is changed..?? and I will get an "incorrect password" when I try to login the site. Every time I log in a site I have to check "don't Update" or next time I will not be able to log in. What's happening. This just sarted happening today.

Hi singelsj,

Sometimes when more than one username is stored for the login of a website, Firefox with indefinitely ask for you to update the login info. To check for this, go to the Firefox Menu and click on "Logins and Passwords"

Scroll down to the website you're trying to log into and see if you have more than one username stored. If you do, delete the unused/incorrect one, restart Firefox, and try logging into that site again.

Josh thanks , but the problem is not that I am asked to update the login, but that when I do check "update", the update changes my password so that I can't log back in. this didn't happen before. If I do not check "update" my saved login is still good the next time I want to log into my saved site.

It does the same to me. I have two different usernames with the same password. I just click Don't Save.

You can create a login block exception for this domain with the proper protocol to prevent getting an update notice. This doesn't affect stored passwords, but will suppress the update notice. You only need to remove the block if you want to store a new password. If necessary you can double-click username and password fields in the Password Manager to edit these fields.

Well, If I change a password, I would want to update to the new password. If, I haven't changed the password, why if I clcik "update" does it store an incorrect, different password?

Some websites copy the real password to a hidden field and modify the field with the password. This makes Firefox ask to update the stored password. You obviously do to want to do this and in such a case it is best to create a block exception like I posted above.

I did not change my login password- isn't this the login and password that is stored in firefox- so why would I need to Update the pasword?

Firefox will ask to update the password when it detects that the value in the password is different than the password that is stored in the Password Manager. If you would update the password and a different/wrong value is stored then this means that some script has changed the password field.

I clicked "I have this problem too"; details:

I have two FF accounts and each is synced among three devices -- one Mac OS and two Windows. There is a web site I regularly visit and both accounts have its stored login/password.

For only one of the FF accounts on only the two Windows devices I have this thread's problem. The password that FF is asking me to update to is "____SAVED_____", so that if I click the Update button my actual password is replaced by that bogus one and subsequent logins will fail. For both accounts on all devices when I look at the site in Logins and Passwords, they have the actual password (as expected, since login works fine on the two problem instances as long as I click the Don't Update button on each login).

I have the same problem and this is stupid! I never had the problem before the most recent update and why should I have to keep adding blocks to websites Firefox screws up on??? Why don't the devs working on Firefox fix the damn thing instead of telling me to keep setting blocks? What's the use of having this function if it doesn't work?? FIX IT! Sheesh!
