Add-on Startupmaster stopped working ver 68.3.1
Add-on StartupMaster stopped working under (just recently) updated TB 32 bit Ver 68.3.1 and while having a master PW is better than nothing, having a password to load TB at all was much better.
Will or can this add-on be updated? Will a newer version of TB have legacy capacity for it? Or perhaps include something like it as a feature?
It is unfortunate that automatic update channel that I had set eliminated this add-on. Had I been warned I probably would have not updated yet. I know I can roll back the update but that is kind of a pain in the rear given the now updated profile. I know there's no way to determine the effect on all add-ons, but this one I think is really popular.

That would be a question for the addon author. Try the support email address https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/startupmaster/

That is highly unlikely. You operating system offers much better protections. For the actual fault the add-on was created to work against I refer you to this bug. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1361838
Holding the shift key while Thunderbird started was sufficient to prevent it protecting anything. So what security it offered was only superficial as it ws not meant to offer added startup password protections.

Probably a good reason to not tell you then as it may never be updated. We do not want people using the old versions. The older they are the more unfixed vulnerabilities they have.
I know I can roll back the update but that is kind of a pain in the rear given the now updated profile.with downgrade protection in place it is much more difficult that in the past. just as testing a beta is much more difficult.

I do not doubt the popularity, but I do doubt the value of a security measure that can be bypassed by holding the shift key.

Thunderbird has just updated and now the add ons have disappeared.
I have just got the last version to work (ver 60)- having reduced Gsynccontacts to an older version. (from 3 to 2)
Now I am back to square one. I suppose having used Thunderbird for near on 12 years, It may be time to give it up and stop my monthly subscription. I am a user who normally manages to solve problems, but I am not a geek. I tried installing TB and then Active exchange instead of Gsync - nothing . I then deleted Active exchange and reinstalled Gsyncontact......nothing What add on am I meant to use for syncing contacts to Gmail? Its all confusing and annoying and I dont have the time to fiddle...
I suppose its back to that crappy product called Outlook......
Its less than a week ago that I was warned on this site not to upgrade to 68 and then suddenly today - it auto updated..... urggghhhhhhhh

Perhaps keep your comments you your own topic. They are not helping glenktn.
In your own support topic https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1275087 you said
Hi - I found that the settings had been changed to dont syncronise the Gmail account. Having unticked the box - it all works fine.
Then in your other support topic https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1275651 you state.
Last week I was warned because of add on issues to stick with the ver60 of TB having finally got it to work again by down grading Gsync contacts.
I presume the warning you are refering to is this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1275087#answer-1273995 sfhowes said
TB 68 is available now on thunderbird.net, but I recommend you stay on 60 until it can be updated internally, either from Help/About TB or by autoupdate if that is your update setting. The manual update has not gone smoothly for many users.
That is a suggestion to not manually update, let the software do it.
Now as your add-on are due to be updated,
- Have you restarted Thunderbird to allow the updated add-on to install?
- Checked in Add-on on the gear icon that update addons is set to automatic?
- Reset all add-ons to update automatically?
- Initiated a manual update from that gear icon?
