So, attachments is no longer shown in the upper right hand area when composing a message.

And internal PDF handling is broken.

Everyone here was used to being able to drag and drop attachments to the upper left hand corner and on seeing them there, was happy that the message would have the attachment.

Everyone composes in new windows, as a full screen.

With the attachments no longer showing up there, I'm getting numerous calls about Thunderbird not attaching files.

Way to go.

Also, because of the New Window and Full Screen, double clicking on PDF's was not opening up the PDF.

Lo And Behold!

A tab in the main Thunderbird window contained the PDF preview.

Way to go.

Had to let people know how to get to settings and fix that problem.

And I will bet there is no options to restore previous behavior from this undesired behavior of attaching files.

As of version 91* all attachments are now shown below the Message content, so basically exactly the same as a received message, at the bottom.

It does not matter if using a sizeable window or maximum, attachments are still listed at the bottom.

Now when you drag and drop attachments eg: files, you hover over the 'Write compose window. If you are adding a file which can be inserted 'inline' then it offers you two options one is inline and the other as attachment. The user needs to drop the attachment into the appropriate area. If they drop it into the inline side then it will not be an attachment.

Also when adding attachments - see info: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-91#w_new-user-interface-for-adding-attachments

You will find a lot more info of new stuff in Thunderbird at that link.

Thunderbird handles PDF viewing internally, that is a new feature announced in the release notes this is not a preview, it is the default PDF viewer for PDF files. It would be really good to see some bugs filed for PDF files that don't open correctly, along with examples of the PDF files. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/home THe only bug I have seen for PDF post V91 is an issue on some linux builds. Personally I found having 16Gb of ram made that feature work more reliable as on my old system I was never able to make it work reliably on Firefox and that was years before Thunderbird used the same approach internally.

Thunderbird has also redesigned the user interface to place attachments at the bottom of the window to make the display of attachments consistent across compose and reading. Again this was announced in the release notes. I do feel that the honking great overlay that says drop here to attach and here to place inline might have been a clue that something was different, it is hardly a subtle change. I have worked with users who write a list of things like click file click open and if either changes they are flummoxed. It is frustrating in the extreme, but you can not hold the software accountable for that level of competence. That is a competence issue to do a job involving software.
