As suggested on Support page I checked my account settings and contacted provider Shaw and found Shaw is showing IMAP settings while Thunderbird shows Pop3 settings. I also have a Tablet and I can receive Shaw messages on it as its account setting are IMAP same as Shaw. I find I cannot change the Pop3 settings to IMAP in Thunderbird. Help would be appreciated as I have over 100 messages waiting to download. Thanks, Bill

You can't change from POP to IMAP by just changing the settings - add the account as IMAP:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Convert_a_POP_account_to_a_IMAP_account

Shaw IMAP settings: imap.shaw.ca, 993, SSL/TLS, normal password, part of address before @

outgoing SMTP: mail.shaw.ca, 587, STARTTLS, normal password, part of address before @
