Firefox sends a message each time I start up. "It is strongly recommended you install this update as soon as possible". I agree to do so and click 'start' but then I get a screen indicating the process is running which never goes away. It never installs and never stops trying to install. Screen says "Connecting to the update server"....

Not being able to connect to a server after an update is usually a Firewall problem, fix the Firewall problem first and then see what happens.

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • Uninstall your current Firefox version.
  • Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Thanks so much. That seems to have cleared the problem and also improved performance - much quicker responses now. Thanks again, from Barbara

Not helpful because I had not updated anything recently. Re-installing Firefox was the clue. Thanks for trying. Barbara
