every page opened has different font size. How do you set a single default font size for all pages?
no two pages opened have the same font size. always to small. How do I set a single font size that will work for all pages. Every time open new e-mail message the font size returns to some very small size even though the previous message font size was enlarged by "ctrl" + the scroll wheel.

What resolution are you using as normal? Locate this info: In your 'Control panel', under the section to do with Appearance & Personalization depending upon version you may find a link to 'adjust screen resolution' or 'Display Settings' to findwhat resolution is set. If you are set to 1280 x 960 then try changing to eg: 1024 x 768.
Each website has a font size preset but ctrl + or - lets you control the font on that tab and that website. When you close the tab or change the website the font reverts to the size it was preset. The resolution set on your computer will also influence the size of the font.
As you seem to be having a problem for every website, I suggest changing your screen resolution first.
I do not believe this to be a Firefox issue.

That is an option you probably would not like
- Tools > Options > Content > Advanced > (uncheck) Allow pages to ..
You can install a toolbar button to toggle that setting on/off "Custom Toolbar Buttons Maker " /Fonts/ (see #zoom link below)
"NoSquint" allows you to adjust the text-only and full-page (both text and images) zoom levels as well as color settings both globally (for all sites) and per site. Allows you to remember from one session to another settings for a site as opposed to only for current session. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592/
Try resetting zoom with Ctrl+0 first
- Ctrl+0 to reset zoom to 100%
- Ctrl++ to zoom in
- Ctrl+- to zoom out
Firefox 4 has [+] and [-] on the Addons bar (replace status bar)_ Not a good solution, because no reset of zoom ("Ctrl+0") was provided, nor even an indication for 100%
