new tabs open randomly in firefox 12.0 on Ubuntu 12.04
New tabs open randomly during firefox sessions. For instance, if I leave firefox running all night, in the morning there will be 4-6 new tabs open, even though the computer was untouched the whole time. The new tabs do not open to websites; they're just blank.

Does it still happen with a new and clean profile?
You can use that profile only during the night.

Maybe there is other software running on the computer that tries to open the default browser, but doesn't use the correct command line for Firefox.
Does it still happen if Firefox isn't set as the default browser?
That's a good question. I just set Chrome as the default browser and I'm going to leave firefox running for a bit to see if that fixes it.
I sort of doubt it, just because firefox has never spontaneously started, which is what I'd expect if it was another program opening it--I would think that if firefox wasn't running when the other program did whatever it was doing, it would start up.
I guess I'll see. Thanks for your help!
Nope; it happens even with Chrome set as the default browser. Confusing!
