When I attach a picture, either as an attachment or using the photos feature, all of the text I have written in the message truncates after each word.
When I attach a picture using Hotmail, either as a photo or as an attachment, the text I have written truncates after each word, so you end up with a message that is one word across and forever vertical. As soon as you delete the attached photo, the message you have written goes back to a standard format.

Does it matter where you place your cursor when attaching the photo? For example, if you press enter a few times and then attach it, does Hotmail display differently?
If you send yourself the message and view it from your Inbox, does the layout return to normal? In other words, is this problem limited to composing or does it affect the message that gets delivered?
It actually affects the message that gets delivered...I did some tests again this morning, sending pictures via Firefox and Explorer. Same issue I reported on Firefox, none on Explorer. Also tried a different computer running XP versus this one running Vista. Also, when people then respond to the original message, it comes back to me in the truncated format.
I'll try the cursor suggestion and let you know. I thought I saw this issue on a Firefox message board a couple of months ago...can't find it now.
Thanks for your help...I hate having to use Explorer to send all my photos.
I tried the cursor idea...no luck. Even if I don't have the cursor down in the main part of the e-mail, it still truncates. Will try to attach pictures first, then write text...maybe that will work.
OK...three more tests later: If I click on photos, then the option to "send files as attachments". IT WORKS OK. I have always sent them as "Save Files on SkyDrive", which is the default for sending pictures. Still doesn't make sense to me why it does this, but I guess as long as I take this extra step, it will work OK. Maybe it's a SkyDrive issue.
Just searched under "skydrive firefox hotmail truncates attach pictures" and got a ton of hits, but no real solution to the problem. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Maybe has to do with a cache issue.

I can replicate the problem when I use the Attachments button and choose the Skydrive tab. For some reason, Microsoft is setting the width of the typed-in message text to 0, and I guess Firefox is stretching that to allow up to the width of one word.
I can't fix Hotmail, but I can give you a hack that resets the width (and height) to auto. You would run this after attaching the images, by clicking a button on your Bookmarks Toolbar.
(1) Copy the following line of code:
javascript:var msgText = document.getElementById("appFrame").contentDocument.getElementById("contentFrame").contentDocument.getElementById("RichTextEditor_surface").contentDocument.getElementById("ecx_rte_preskyattach"); msgText.style.height = "auto"; msgText.style.width = "auto"; void 0;
(2) Right-click the Bookmarks Toolbar and choose New Bookmark
If you do not normally display this toolbar, you can toggle it on using the View menu (Alt+v) or by right-clicking a blank area of the tab bar or menu bar
(3) Paste the code in as the Location
(4) Name the bookmark as you wish (for example, FixHotmail)
Something more permanent could be created, but hopefully Microsoft will fix this and save us the trouble.
