I have a few weeks old mac in which java has (deliberately) never been installed. I've been using firefox exclusively as my browser. I just checked my Add-ons, and saw that a java applet plug-in 14.3.0 was listed, and was flagged as vulnerable when I ran an add-on version check. I immediately disabled it. Since java has never been installed on my desktop, I understand that a java applet placeholder may be listed in the plug-ins list, but the listed item I see does not specify that it is a placeholder, and was specifically flagged as vulnerable by Mozilla's add-on check. My question: was my computer vulnerable while the applet was enabled even if java is not installed in my desktop?

The java applet probably came from another program (firefox doesn't install java, and if you don't have Java on your computer Firefox doesn't care or install anything). Id' suggest your remove it from your control panel.
