How do I set Thunderbird to open with the last mailbox that I used as it did with earlier versions?
I am using OS 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro with Thunderbird 24.4.0. Unfortunately it opens with "Local Folder" and I can't seem to change that. My previous Thunderbird version 3.1.20 would always open to the last mailbox that I was using.
I transfered the profile from my older computer and everything else seems to work fine
I set the preferences the same way that I did with version 3.2.10, but no matter what I do it still ends up opening to Local Folders.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Allen

the folder pane should open exactly as it was when Thunderbird closed. So if your on local folders when you close that is where it should open. If you are in RSS feeds, then that is where it should come back to. This information is stored in the session.JSON file in your profile. If it is not being stored between sessions. Try deleting it ( it will be recreated if it is missing) look for other software that might be editing, deleting or otherwise interfering in the process.
I tried your suggestions but to no avail.
After being completely frustrated with Mavericks OS 10.9 I wiped the hard drive and loaded OS 10.6. I loaded Thunderbird 24.4.0 and the same thing happens. No matter what I try it always opens with local folders instead the the last mailbox that I was using. This sounds like a bug to me.

I already had folderpane tools installed. Apparently during the upgrade to Thunderbird 24.4.0 "Override startup folder" somehow got toggled on. I hadn't touched the preferences, and to be honest I forgot that I had previously installed the add on. Unchecking the box for "Override startup folder" cured my problem. Now Thunderbird always opens to the last folder or mailbox that I had opened.
