I have an issue when launching Mozilla Thunderbird version 24.4.0

I have disabled all addons

I`m using an SSD (Solid State Drive)

When program launches it automatically checks for new messages, when it does this the program locks up for a few seconds, not sure why it's doing this, I've tried disabling add ons but still yet it locks up when checking mail. Any ideas why it is doing this?

Start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.

Does the problem go away?
