Heyas..!

Is it currently possible to search using keyword bookmarks in Firefox mobile? I mean bookmarks that point to some URL with a "%s" in it that gets replaced with your search...

For example, I may have a bookmark pointing to "http://stackoverflow.com/search?q=%s" with the keyword set to "so"... So on Desktop Firefox, I can search Stack Overflow by typing in "so some programming question" into the Awesome Bar and hitting [Enter].

But as far as I can tell, these are unusable in mobile Firefox. Is there some option I am missing?

Thanks..!

If you use Firefox Sync you can sync bookmarks with keyword searches to Firefox for Android and they will function as expected.

Hello!

You have an option to customize search options. Go to Menu > Settings > Customize > Search. At the end of the page, there's a little note on adding custom search providers. Just go to the page that has a search box, long tap it, and select the magnifying glass with a + sign on it :-)

It should be available the next time you use the title bar.

Hope that helps!

Aye, thanks... Though what about existing searches? If I need to re-add them, the automagic search finding may not be able to replicate some of the manually created ones, like "http://%s.reddit.com/".

I guess this is a limitation as of current..?

Hi

That is the only way you can add a custom a custom search to firefox in android. There might be addons that can do the job.

Good luck

I have synced them over, it's just there is no way to use them once they exist on the phone...or rather, no way that is apparent to me.

Typing "4c vp" into the address bar, for example, Google's "4c vp" rather than passes "vp" to the bookmark with the keyword "4c" like it would on desktop Firefox. Also, none of the keywords show up in the search options.

How are keywords expected to work in Firefox mobile?

Aaah..! I was wrong. That does appear to work. My bad.

And thanks..!

I've installed Firefox for Android. I've updated Firefox Desktop to new version. I've synced both desktop and android with new version of Firefox sync (username & password). Bookmarks are synced as open tabs, BUT search by keywords on Firefox android doesn't work! I've found that keywords on desktop version work but keywords on android version are not synced! All my bookmarks haven't any keyword synced on android version! Why?!? Help!

Firefox is v33.1
