Firefox won't do anything. At all.
Updated Firefox, now it won't do anything. Webpages won't load, don't even get the "connecting..." message, no error messages, nothing. Literally nothing happens when I click on a link, type in a URL & hit enter, try to visit something in my history, etc. Other browsers work, internet connection itself is fine, Firefox works fine on my other computer...........
I've been through all the Mozilla Support articles, searched the forums, etc. Tried everything that I've found - checked the settings on my firewall, various about:config options, antivirus program, etc., made sure "work offline" isn't checked, disabled addons, restarted & reinstalled, etc., and generally checked all the usual suspects. Nada. Made no difference.
Any ideas/advice/suggestions/etc.? Thanks!

I had already done a clean reinstall of Firefox and created a new profile, neither of which made any difference in the (lack of) behavior.
I had also scanned with everything you mentioned except TDSSKiller, which I have now done. None of them found anything amiss.
However, after going through all the various steps suggested here and in various relevant Mozilla Support articles, it's now fixed. I finally stumbled across this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/974612 and tried the solution suggested there, which fixed it. Firefox is now behaving itself and functioning correctly!

In case it helps someone else in the future, here's the solution from the earlier post that ended up working for me:
1. Run cmd.exe as an administrator
2. Type "netsh winsock reset", and then press enter
3. Restart PC

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
- Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information.Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
- Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
- Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Thanks for the replies & suggestions, all. Still not fixed, though. =(
I reset Firefox, but nothing changed in terms of the issue described above, still does the same thing as before (i.e., nothing).
And I'd already checked security software & firewall - removed then re-added Firefox to the permissions, checked all the settings, disabled, reinstalled...... Didn't make any difference. I re-checked & re- removed-&-readded, just to be sure - nada.
Also, forgot to mention, I did run a couple different virus & malware scans, which didn't turn up anything.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.
What am I supposed to be doing/testing after starting in safe mode?

You can check if Firefox works better when you boot the computer in Safe Mode.
If it works in Windows Safe mode then you likely have a problem with other software, possibly security software or a system driver, on your computer. You can check possible advanced settings in your security software for Firefox.
As soon as I posted the question, I realized that was what you meant. Anyway, I tried it, and there was no difference, Firefox did exactly the same thing.
Silly question, have you tried this?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar
Select Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Then restart.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
