Just opened email page. Message displayed from Mozilla requesting I create new email. Could not find a way to leave page as message kept being displayed. Contacted server who said it appears email account has been closed and all messages deleted. Server set up Mozilla email account again for me by remote. Why would Mozilla cancel my account and ask me to create another one and why delete existing emails etc.

It is possible that Thunderbird started and could not locate your mail account or profile. If it thought there was no mail accounts then it would ask to create one.

It is possible that you still have the mail account, so when the tech person recreated the account, did they check to see if the account was recoverable or not? They would have needed to make hidden folders visible and then check in the Thunderbird profile folder to confirm whether there was more than one profile or whether the mail account was still in the Profile Mail folder.

You do not say whether this was Pop or IMAP mail account.
