Running Firefox 34.0 and says I don't need to update.

Have tried safe mode, still the minimise tab(?) in upper right corner of screen is black.
No other black screens.
I tried to download Firefox again, but it says I already have Firefox Latest version.

Below, I changed Windows XP to Windows 7 Version 6.1

is the problem still occurring afterwards? if so you might want to try an update of your graphics driver: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

hello ellensue, did you send in your question from the affected system? if so please try to right-click the firefox symbol on your desktop, go to properties > compatibility and make sure that firefox is not set to run in windows xp mode...

Hi Philipp,

Thank you so much for your help. Yes, Firefox was set to run for Windows XP. I changed it to Windows 7 and applied it...now what?

If you still have the problem then try this:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can also try different Windows themes to see if that has effect.

Thanks cor-el, I started Firefox in safe mode, went to tools, then to add-ons and then to appearance. It said default was disabled..? But the minimize tab(?) appeared and it was not blacked out! (I had long ago unchecked hardware acceleration, trying to get Firefox faster.) But I have the minimize tab... I have not done anything else, except take it out of safe mode (I think)

Thanks for your help. I hope you have a great holiday.
