Syncing deleted most of my bookmarks
Three months ago I began using sync but it was not until today that I noticed that many of my older bookmarks in my bookmarks menu had disappeared along with the folders I had created to categorize them. Also my browsing history has been significantly shortened.
Why is this happening and how do I stop it?
Before syncing I had a vast bookmark array now all I seem to have are bookmarks that only go back about a year.
I tried to restore but the archive only goes back a month. Is there a way to find older restore backups?
Thanks

Hi cucaloris, Sometimes when Sync merges bookmarks between devices they can become displaced in the Unsorted bookmark folder.
Unfortunately Sync does not offer a back up service, however it is possible to see if there are backups on the device that no longer shows the bookmarks looked form. This will be in the Bookmarks > Show all bookmarks > Star icon > Restore (Note that if you restore to a previous version, the current one will be over written. It is possible to create a new profile and point to these back up json files in the current one Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer just select browse from a new profile: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles )
Please post back if you have more questions on how to do this.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

Bookmark / History Backups
Type about:support<Enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Enter the bookmarkbackups folder. This is where Firefox makes backups of your bookmarks. Look for the jsonlz4 file you want to restore (check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select Copy. Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file places.sqlite by adding .old to it. Now right click in the folder and select Paste. The file you just pasted here, rename it to places.sqlite. After you are done, restart Firefox.
