The audio level for me email notifications is barely audible. I have to crank my windows volume up to full volume to even be able to hear a sound and even then it is very quiet. Then when I use ANY other program I have to drop the volume all the way back to around 25 or 30% to keep from busting my ears. I didn't use to have this problem but something happened to Thunderbird and my sound level that I can't figure out how to remedy. The problem is only with Thunderbird.

Click on the speaker symbol; then click on "Mixer". Adjust the individual volume controls there. TB has it's own volume.
