How do I make a new tab open as my designated home page instead of the view of multiple past pages or a blank page? I don't want top sites or blank

I tried the suggested enter about config in address bar, etc, but for the next step "At the top of the screen is a search bar. " there is no search bar.

Hi, for now, you can type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.newtab.url and in 'Value,' delete about:newtab or about:blank and enter the URL of the site you want to use, or if you want the Firefox Start Page, enter about:home (right click > Modify, to change it). You may then need to restart Firefox. More - Configuration Editor for Firefox.

Note however, that from Firefox 41 you will need to use the add-on New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) to make any changes.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

The search bar is here. You say it is missing?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
