You say you've sent email to reset password but how can I read email if I can't sign in?

I am unable to read my emails because a new version of Thunderbird has been installed which requires me to log in. I've never had to do this previously so naturally didn't know it. You've sent an email to reset the password but of course I can read it as I can't log on to the account. So what is the solution please?

First of all, "we" are not the people you need to be asking.

All email accounts have a password. If your email provider offers to send you a new password via email, then it's your responsibility to provide an alternative email account for them to send it to.

Most of us can go to the email provider's website and change the password for ourselves, avoiding this problem with email.

If you have become locked out of an account due to a mess up with passwords, then it may be necessary to make a phone call to your email provider. If you don't know for sure who they are, it's probably your ISP.
