After functioning fine for the last several months on this machine, firefox has started crashing on loading today. I started off simply by restarting the machine, then reinstalling firefox, then doing a clean uninstall, then doing that plus deleting the profile files. Still behaving exactly the same. Every time I launch it the crash reporter starts before any window comes up. Have tried in safe mode and with a refresh, also did not help. Here is the crash ID, any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

hi NicholsR2000, thanks for providing a crash report id. we have seen quite a number of similar reports about this issue in the last hours and this issue is likely caused by your symantec security software that is hooking into firefox (probably through a program/signature update done by them). other users reported that updating firefox in this situation helped with the crashes. you can download & install the latest esr version of firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

Thanks for the quick reply. I updated to the latest ESR and firefox does now load. Unfortunately, I needed to use Aras PLM with firefox and that was only compatible with ESR 38. Their add-on will not install currently.

in this case please get in contact with symantec's support about this issue as well. i heard that they are planning to revert their latest signature changes that triggered this recent crashiness, but i'm unsure about the when & how...
